TRAVEL MEMORIES WITH YOUR FOLK HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS
While attending IHÅ, you have the opportunity to join a variety of trips. Some trips are linked to specific sports subjects, while others are open to the entire school. All trips are paid for in addition to the regular weekly tuition fee for attending the school. Unless otherwise stated, the trip price covers all expenses, including transportation, food, accommodation, instruction, and any necessary equipment rental. You only need to bring a little extra pocket money.
Registration for the various trips is binding, but don’t worry—you won’t need to sign up until after you’ve started at the school and have had the chance to learn more.
Note: There are rules regarding how many days you can travel during your folk high school stay. Read at the bottom of the page how you can combine your trips without exceeding the allowed number of travel days.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more, feel free to contact the school at ihaa@ihaarhus.dk or +45 86 21 38 00

Skiing trips
SKIING TRIPs (SPRING)
Every spring, we go on a ski trip in week 6 – a week filled with community, cozy folk high school atmosphere, and plenty of time on the slopes.
All students can join, no matter their skiing experience. You’ll be placed in a group that matches your skill level, and every morning there’s ski or snowboard instruction. Some groups are taught by our own students who are trained ski instructors, while others are led by our regular instructors. No matter your level, you’ll be challenged and surprised at how much your technique can improve.
In the afternoons, you’ll have time to explore the slopes on your own, and in the evenings, we gather for songs, cozy hangouts – and of course, the legendary “Crash of the Day” award.
Price: Approx. 7,500 DKK
(Includes transport, meals, accommodation, equipment rental, lift pass, and instruction)
Number of travel days: 7 overnight stays
SKIING TRIP (AUTUMN)
In the fall, we go on a one-week ski trip to the Alps. The trip is a true high school experience, filled with social bonding, evening gatherings, and, of course, the awarding of the best crashes. Every day, you’ll receive lessons from our skilled ski instructors on the slopes, where you’ll work on various aspects of skiing. You can expect to significantly improve your technique and personal skills during the week. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the ski area on your own.

Number of travel days: 7 overnight stays
Club La Santa
Club La Santa (SPRING AND AUTUMN)
The second group trip is to Club La Santa on Lanzarote. Club La Santa is a well-known destination in the sports world, offering a pleasant warm climate, excellent training conditions and facilities, and outstanding instructors.
In March (spring semester) and November (autumn semester), we get a taste of summer and head south to the sun. The trip to La Santa is a shared experience where we relocate our teaching to Lanzarote. Here, we enjoy the wonderful weather and draw inspiration from the local instructors. There’s nothing better than shaking up your training routine and embracing new challenges.
During this week, you will have plenty of opportunities to train in your sports subjects, but the trip will also include a strong sense of folk high school spirit, gatherings, and more. You will also have the chance to try some of the other activities La Santa offers, such as triathlon, surfing, and mountain biking.

Subject trips
Trips with Outdoor (spring)
Adventure trip in Denmark (February)
On the year’s first trip with Outdoor, we stay in Denmark. We go out and sleep in shelters and test our culinary skills with a Trangia cooking system. The trip is training and preparation for the longer trips to Norway and Sweden, and you will try to hike with a full pack, try out mountain biking and many other things.
Mountain trip to Norway (March)
We go on a cross-country trip in the beautiful Norwegian mountains. We sleep in small, cosy huts and explore the Norwegian mountains on cross-country skis. Imagine fantastic nature, lots of snow, igloo building and Folk High School fun in the glow of the campfire – this is Outdoor at its best.
Trip to Sweden (May)
We end the spring with an adventure trip with both cliff and cave climbing, rafting and lots of kilometres in walking boots.
Total price: Circa 4000 DKK.
Number of travel days: 9 overnight stays in total
Trips with Outdoor (autumn)
Sea kayak trip in Denmark (August)
After becoming confident with sea kayaks in the swimming pool and on Aarhus bay, we sail out on a longer trip. We sail along the coast, make camp, stay overnight and sail onwards next morning. We enjoy each other, nature and the sea – and perhaps we are so lucky that a porpoise swims by.
Trip to Sweden (October)
We load up our bicycles and cycle towards the ferry to Sweden. We spend the evenings around the fire and the nights in primitive huts. The days are filled with activities, and we try out, amongst other things, both climbing and rafting.
’The personal challenge’, Denmark (December)
We round off the Outdoor year with a challenge. An overnight stay under the open skies in December can be cold, we freely admit. But as a typical Outdoor class, we can manage it. The last trip is your opportunity to challenge yourself and, perhaps, exceed your limits in a way that you would not have thought possible in August.
Total price: Circa 3500 DKK
Number of travel days: 8 overnight stays in total
DANCE: COPENHAGEN (SPRING)
In the spring, Dance goes on a trip to Copenhagen to take part in various workshops covering a wide range of styles such as Dancehall, House, Heels, and Contemporary. In addition, the city’s different dance communities will be explored. Our dance teacher also keeps an eye out for shows taking place while you are in Copenhagen — for example, the Danish National Gymnastics Team or exciting theatre and dance performances.
Price: Circa 3500 DKK.
Number of travel days: 2 overnight stays
Handball trip
(Spring and autumn)
If you have Handball as one of your Sports subjects, or you are a student at our Handball Academy, then we attempt, as far as possible, to arrange a trip to Flensburg. It will typically be a daytrip on a coach, where we visit the Flens-Arena to see one of SG Flensburg Handewitt’s matches in the Bundesliga. There is always a guarantee of a super atmosphere and an intense game of handball from one of the top leagues in the world.
Price: Circa 300 DKK.
Rules on travel days
You will only need to choose your trips once you have started at the folk high school. First, you will be introduced to the different trips, after which you can sign up for the ones you would like to join. Please note that there are rules regarding how many days you may travel during your stay. Specifically, this means that you can have the same number of travel days as the number of weeks your stay lasts. For example, if you are here in the spring (24 weeks), you may have 24 travel days, while in the autumn (19 weeks), you may have 19 travel days in total.
Note: Travel days are counted by the number of nights spent on the given trip. You can see the number of travel days (overnights) in the trip descriptions above.
To make things clearer, we have created an overview below of how you can combine your trips without exceeding the number of travel days. And if this seems confusing, don’t worry—you will have everything presented and explained when you arrive at IHÅ. You are of course also welcome to give us a call if you have any questions.
